XICANIDAD

PAST PRESENT FUTURO

Inaugurated at the Houston Latino Film Festival, we welcome you to an immersive exploration into the visual representation of the Chicano/a/x creative, offering a sensory experience that intertwines contemporary art with historical archives. This group exhibition presents the work of 26 Texas-based Chicano/a/x artists, showcasing a wide array of mediums. Each piece reflects the evolving, multi-layered identity of the Chicano/a/x community, telling stories that transcend time, bridging the past, present, and futuro of a rich cultural heritage.

Archival materials from The Hispanic Collections at the Houston History Research Center (HHRC), offer a grounded viewpoint from which the dream-like imagery of an evolving identity emerges in themes such as the meaning of home and the relationship to home. The works encompass the vibrant contributions of Chicano/a/x communities, emphasizing how identity and experience continue to evolve.

In this exhibition, the artists express not only a history, but a vision—a future rooted in the resilience of their past and the vibrancy of their present. “Xicanidad: Past Present Futuro” offers an essential glimpse into the transformative power of art, heritage, and identity.
